Why you should book your next video production project in South Carolina

We love the Carolinas, and it’s easy to see why. The weather is gorgeous and mild for most of the year, and nearly every place you visit has a nostalgic southern charm.

They also happen to be great states for large-scale video production – particularly South Carolina.

There are plenty of gorgeous locations that allow you to shoot a variety of scenes. In need of a snowy setting? The mountains in South Carolina often have snow on them in season and make for gorgeous views and are only a few hours away. Searching for a small-town vibe for your commercial? We have plenty of those in South Carolina, along with beaches, urban environments, woodsy areas and more.

Plus, you’re almost guaranteed beautiful weather most days, which means no pausing production for storms. Getting here is easy with the many major and minor airports throughout both states.

These are just a few of the reasons great films like Forrest Gump, Radio and The Patriot filmed in South Carolina. But another major perk to filming in the state is the production incentive package.

In South Carolina you’re eligible for a quick cash rebate within 30 days of the final audit, a difference from other states that might offer tax rebates or tax refunds but with a much longer waiting period.

There is an employee wage rebate, which allows production companies to be eligible for a 25 percent rebate for South Carolina residents employed for the video project and a 20 percent rebate for all non-resident performing artists.

If you use a South Carolina supplier for services, rentals or lease equipment, there’s a 30 percent rebate.

There are also opportunities that allow you not to have to pay state sales taxes, and you won’t have to pay location fees for state property upon consultation with the South Carolina Film Commission.

The South Carolina production incentives are among the best in the country, and only add to the many benefits already in place when you choose to film here.

And if you’re in need of an indoor space to film, there are plenty of amazing options in the state to fit your individual needs. The River Place has a giant soundstage with industry standard lighting set-up, a drive-up loading dock and the largest cyc wall in the state.
